gorse interview on 3:AM Magazine

Susan Tomaselli & I were recently interviewed by 3:AM Magazine's Tristan Foster for a feature on gorse.

In response to his perceptive questions we discuss the journal's history, scope, outlook and goals, and offer thoughts on editing a print journal with an interest in experimental writing as well as related topics such as the potential of literature, the avant-garde, and "transgressing boundaries".

We also announce plans for an associated imprint set to begin operations in 2017. A publishing statement will follow, but we were very happy to reveal that the first two titles will be an anthology of essays edited by Joanna Walsh, and Subcritical Tests, a book of collaborative poetry by Ailbhe Darcy & SJ Fowler.

'Capital' at Irish Museum of Modern Art

On Saturday 5 September I will present a new long poem with title 'Capital' at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA). This is part of a programme of events for The People's Pavilion installation, a public outdoor space located on the museum's front lawn where people can meet safely in specially designed social distancing circles. From the event description: 'Capital' is a polyphonic poem composed of fragments of text from unattributed reviews of establishments on Talbot Street, publicly available on Google Maps. It has its roots in Makris’s longstanding interest in the shifts in language use, communication and identity brought about by digital media, and their implication on poetic discourse. The poem maps the street through the kind of public-private writing prevalent online (the reviews often stray into personal anecdote). It Reeks of Radio: the launch / the exhibition / early responses / a reading for Joseph M Hassett

The Old Physics Theatre at Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI) was nicely full for the launch of my fifth book of poetry  It Reeks of Radio  (BLR Editions)  on 26 September 2023, where I was in public conversation with this year's UCD / Arts Council of Ireland Writer in Residence, Victoria Kennefick. It was lovely to see many old and new friends and colleagues attend what was a lunchtime event on a weekday. Victoria's astute reading of the book, her skillful hosting of the conversation and her probing questions facilitated a dive into several of the strands explored in the book.
