Words Ireland @ ILFDublin

On Friday 25 May I will deliver a presentation in partnership with Nathan O'Donnell and Suzanne Walsh as part of Words Ireland @ ILFDublin: A National Day for Writers, at the Irish Museum of Modern Art.

Scheduled for 11.30am in the 'How We Made This: Collaborations' segment, our presentation will focus on 'Inflammatory Speech', our IMMA commission and subsequent performance last year. We aim, as the programme blurb promises, to "display innovative thinking and best practice in literary and cross-arts collaboration".

Words Ireland @ ILFDublin: A National Day for Writers is a one-day get together for professional and emerging writers working in all forms, and it is part of International Literature Festival Dublin 2018. As well as staging writer-focused events, Words Ireland is gathering 40 literature organisations and lots of industry personnel together to meet writers in the Great Hall at IMMA. There are nine events to choose from on the day, each 50 minutes long, before a final keynote event.

Early bird tickets are €45 and general admission is €55. It includes free lunch and drinks reception. Group tickets for 3 cost €120 in total. Tickets are sold through the festival.

Inflammatory Speech: an Irish Museum of Modern Art commission

In July,  Nathan O'Donnell ,   Suzanne Walsh  and I operating as a collaborative unit received one of three project commissions from the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) to create new work in response to the ROSC 50 exhibition. After a four-month research and composition period, our resulting collaborative text and performance 'Inflammatory Speech' will be presented on  Saturday 11 November at 2pm in The Johnston Suite at IMMA  as part of  an event showcasing the ROSC 50 artist research commissions. Admission is free, but  booking is required  as places are limited : "Audiences are invited to attend a seminar comprising of artists’ performance, lecture presentations, screening and a panel discussion. 'Capital' at Irish Museum of Modern Art

On Saturday 5 September I will present a new long poem with title 'Capital' at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA). This is part of a programme of events for The People's Pavilion installation, a public outdoor space located on the museum's front lawn where people can meet safely in specially designed social distancing circles. From the event description: 'Capital' is a polyphonic poem composed of fragments of text from unattributed reviews of establishments on Talbot Street, publicly available on Google Maps. It has its roots in Makris’s longstanding interest in the shifts in language use, communication and identity brought about by digital media, and their implication on poetic discourse. The poem maps the street through the kind of public-private writing prevalent online (the reviews often stray into personal anecdote).
